My configuration: W2k3Ent sp1, 2-node cluster w/GEocluster
Backup Exec 10 bld 5520 sp1

When the backup runs on the secondary node, it fails at the Shadow copy components. The error within BE is:

AOFO: Initialization failure on: \\<server>\Shadow?Copy?Components. Advanced Open File Option used. Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Services
VSS Snapshot error. The MS Vol Shadow Copy Services snapshot failed. Make sure that all provider services and tasks are running.

On the node, I have events12289 source VSS & event1 source volsnap. The Shadow Copy service is not running and is set to Manual on both nodes.

The 2 nodes are identical, hardware thru OS. The primary node backs up fine.

Not sure if this is a problem with the cluster, or the VSS service. I am not using the Shadow copy service at all.

I ran 'vssadmin list writers' and the following writers were failed: System Writer, WMI Writer, Cluster Service Writer.

I looked at the VSS updates and none seem to be specific to my problem.

Any suggestions?

You should probably look for a solution on Veritas' website but if i remember correctly you probably only need to uncheck "backup files following junction points". i think that was it.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, junction points was not checked.
I have actually called Veritas and they pushed me off to Microsoft. I really think it is a problem with VSS.
