VS 2005 - Publishing my application, (deploy or packaging)

Can anyone help,

I've create a Visual Basic Application in VS 2005, I now need to deploy or package the application.

I don't now the difference between deploy and package. when the application is installed i need it to be installed on the desktop.

I have tried using ClickOnce, a VS 2005 feature,this only allows the user to install the software in the All Programs List. And when it creates the setup.exe file it create a few other files, which i don't want the user to see

so what i need help on is:
1. what is deploy and package and what should i be using
2. Create setup.exe and make sure users cant see the extra files attached to it
3. Create the setup.exe on the desktop and when the user installs the software it creates a icon onto there desktop automatically.
