VS 2005 and CR XI together

I've been using CR in Visual Studio 2005 for quite a while.

At some point last year I installed CR XI and then Rel 2.

I've noticed that on some reports (in the VS 2005 environment), when I go to change something in the report (right clicking somewhere) I get a list of doubles of everything that I can change, like Edit a Text field, etc., as well as on the toolbox.

I assumed that this is because I am using two different versions of CR, and I've also created reports with the two versions.

So my question is, can I have the two versions of CR installed at the same time on my computer?

And if I can, why are doubles of all the right clicks showing up?

Thanks.

The doubles showing up have to do with a disconnect in the way that Crystal registers itself with VS 2005. Using either one of the duplicated entries will get you the most recent XI version you have installed - they're just duplicate entries, not separate entries for each version.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

Is there a way to get rid of the duplicates, or do I have to live with it?

I've uninstalled CR XI already.

Is there any advantage to uninstalling the CR that comes with Visual Studio 2005 and just using CR XI?

And if I do this will I still be able to have Visual Basic CR templates still available?

Thanks much.

Basically, you just have to live with it. I seem to recall that if Crystal is not installed with VS, then XI won't register in VS, but I may be wrong as I haven't tried it.

Here is what I finally did.

I uninstalled CR XI Rel 2. This left the CR that comes with VS 2005 and the uninstall removed all the double controls.

But since I had so many reports in CR XI I needed to use it.

I reinstalled it and it removed the CR in VS 2005.

In one of my projects there were references to both the old and new CR so that is why there were double controls everywhere.

Also when I installed CR XI, there was a window that would pop up all the time I opened a report: "Please wait while Windows configures Crystal Reports XI Release 2". This would do the configuring for 5-10 minutes. Bugger.

In the SAP Network forum, Asha Lund suggested "just Help -> uncheck the option "Check for Updates on Start Up"." and this worked both in CR itself and in VS 2005.
