XP Home Edition 2002
55277-OEM-0011903-00238

XP Home Edition was pre-installed on my vpr Matrix computer. The manufacturer did not provide XP installation disks. Instead, XP was only included in a Recovery
Disk. The recovery disk, however, can only be used when you need to format the hard drive and re-install Win XP.

In the normal course of computing, sometimes the system tells you to insert your Windows installation disk into the CD rom. When that happens, I am unable to comply because I do not have any such disk, just a recovery disk. What can I do?

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Mark

If you search the "recovery" disk, you may find an XP home directory. I've seen this in restore disks for Win 98, but haven't looked lately. I don't believe in recovery disks, I instruct customers to acquire the Windows CD. If you can find an XP sub-directory, point any repairs at this directory. You can also copy the data to your hard drive and/or burn it to a CD. The only thing you really need the restore disk for is activation.
