I am new to VPN and I have been asked to set up VPN site-to-site and client-to-site VPN using the Netgear FVS318.
I have not been able to find info on how to do this, Netgear is no help and their docs are worthless. Can anyone can refer to me were I can find documentation that could help me set this thing up?
The netgear in the office is running version 2.4
Thanks

Netgear makes client software for the fvs318.. here is the link

You can download all the FVS318 router, and client software documentation from netgears site. Those documents explain how to set up a VPN using those products…both router to router, and client to router.

What netgear documents have you viewed that you consider "worthless?"

Thanks bkrike for taking the time to answer.
The reason I consider netgear docs worthless is because the manual that comes with the unit and the manual that is listed in their website is for firmware version 1.4, the firware version in my unit is 2.4, and the diferencies between the two versions are significant.
I went into the web site you indicated, this is a web site I have been in several times, It mostly talks about what the firewall does and the client software (which we also purchased)
As I stated on a as yet to be answered e-mail to Netgear, I find hard to beleived that they will want me to pay to provide me with an updated manual for an update that they provide for free in their site.
All I want is a updated manual to see if I can make this thing work.
Again, thanks for answering my call for help
Joe

I went to the Netgear website and downloaded the version1.4 manual because I found out that the manual I had was from February 2003 and the manual in the web site was date June 2003.
This manual is more up to date and has step-by-step instructions on how to set up a vpn client-to-firewall. I followed the steps to the lettert changing only the tpc/ip numbers. To test the connection the manual asked to click on the "connect" in the client software, there is not "connect" in the client software. The other test was to ping the internal tpc/ip using the -t option to let it run at least 2 minutes. I let my run for more than 5 minutes and still it would not reply.
can someone give me ideas?
thanks
Joe

the "connect" is an option from right clicking the icon in your clock/taskbar area. But first you have to set up a security policy connection. Beyond that, I can only offer the fact that netgear offers tech support for VPN products on a pay as you go basis. If I were you I would just keep changing settings until I got it to connect.
