VPN with lynksis router

Hi,

I have set up a vpn on windows server 2003, and a client access on xp, and enabled pptp passthrough on the lynksis router, but it refuses to connect! i also have an isa server, but vpn access is enabled.
am i missing something stupid?

If you have configured your server for pptp connections only, you will also need to configure your linksys router to forward TCP port 1723 to the server. If you configured the server to try L2TP first (the default configuration) you will also need to forward UDP port 1701.

Please be a bit more descriptive than "refuses to connect." What specific error message are you seeing on the client end?

thanks, i will try that. sorry forgot to put the error in. its error 800. unable to esablish the vpn connection.

i also have a server that was installed before i took over, it has NAT but not VPN configuerd. is there a way to add VPN, without removing NAT and configuring both?

Fear not - this should work. I had the same problems as you and was about to through the darn thing through the nearest window. But here is what you do....

Log on to your router.

Click "Gaming and Applications" section.

Click "Port Triggering".

Then enter an app name (any thing you like) in the application field.
In each of the four port fields enter 500 and tick enable
Do the same for 4500 or what ever the other port number is on your VPN server.

That should do the trick. No need for static IP addresses or any thing out of the ordinary.

i am now configuring a VPN through an ISA Server 2004, with the same settings its coming back with the error 800! do i need to open some more ports for ISA? i have 4500, 500 ans 1723 open already?
