VPN Remote phones... Router recomendations

I have several customers sites along with my own office that have 5610 and 9620 vpn phones. All sites use netgear fvs338 routers and all have problems. The more phones you connect to the router the more frequent the problems become. Because of the nature of the problems I am blaming the router. I am not a vpn wizard so I use this router because it comes with tech tip 184 off the knowledge base. What ever router i use needs to have detailed instructions for vpn phone set up.
Does anyone want to recomend a router that doesn't require reboots or firmware updates or factory defaults with manually re entering the configuration to keep a vpn and especially multiple vpn phones up and running?
I'm going to drink a beer or two or... now and hope for some fellow techs to hop on here and help a brother out.
 
Socalsteve, what firmware version is the router on?
I have had problems with the vpn connections.
Each phone consumed more then one ipaddress and showed more then one tunnel for it too.
But i have raised a case and i got a beta version for the 336 and this one seems to be very very very stable.

So contact support and raise it.
Be sure that you have the routers serial number!
I have used version 3.0.7-21

Have this set up at multiple separate customers and my own office all are FVS338 and firmware has been everything but thats the first thing i try is updating firmware. Even tried checking Dead Peer detection.
 
But what version is it on?
I had a 3.0.5 which was rubbish.
The 3.0.7 is great.

Ask netgear for support.
There must be newer and better firmware.

That is the latest off of the website and this happens on several different routers with different firmware. I see in all the routers vpn connection status that multple connections are listed for a single endpoint. I am on hold with netgear as we speak. It hasnt been a very productive call so far... the first 38 minutes that is...
 
I have had the same problem.
I have beta firmware for the 336.
The 3.0.7-21 fixed it for me.

Still on the phone with them. This kid needs slapped. Trying to blame the client end when obviously the vpn log and connection status show otherwise. They also took my credit card info for $75 at the start of the call. Still on hold waiting for beta firmware email.....
 
how did you guys setup your Netgear routers and the phones, I have been trying everything and all I get is Failed IKE phase 1?
