Static Ip with IDSL using a netopia router. Home machine is a dynamic IP on ADSL with the speedtouch usb, running win XP. I believe I have the netopia setup properly but when i connect, the connection stays on, but i cant access anything over there, no pings or anything, i think it has to do with assigning my vpn an IP from the router? does it need to be one of the ip's that one of the workstations connected to the router uses? NAT is not enabled and I dont want to change anything already setup for my ISP.

Are you able to even ping the router you connect to? Once connected, run IPCONFIG and see what you get. You need an IP from the network you connect to, or you will not be able to communicate with it....

no i can ping the router fine. and i know i need an IP from the network i connect to. what does that mean? one of the static ip's that my isp gave the idsl? or just any old arbitrary Ip i pick? and i enter that in the connection settings on the client under tcpip settings but anywhere else? on the server?

It means if PCA is inside your corp network and has an IP of 192.168.1.x, typically you will need an IP of 192.168.1.x. There are ways around it thru routing.
How are you connecting, IPSec? Run a tracert to a workstation IP once connected. You may try adding a static route. From cmd line, ROUTE ADD <Destination Subnet> MASK <255.255.255.0 or whatever> <IP of Netopia Router> METRIC 1

I am trying to enable my r3100 router for terminal services. I know I need to map the public to the private on port 3389, do you know what area I go into in the administration? Sorry, I am a little new to routing.
Thanks
Randa
