VPN from satellite office in same subnet

I'm currently working at a site and wanted to VPN to my office. The VPN device appears to not respond but i know it is working as i can access it via dial up internet connection.

At this office, i'm on a LAN with the same range of addresses. The default gateway here is x.x.x.11

Could that cause the problem. I've run into issues when on the same subnet when it comes to name resolution but was always able to connect.

Just wondering what the issue is.

You don't VPN between same subnets (most hardware vendors reject this) because of the routing issues.

Error 721: modem isn't responding after it says verifying username and password.

It seems to be a routing issue based on the subnet conflict.
