I'm trying to make a VPN connection to my home network WRV54G router from a Windows 2000 laptop. I don't want to use the Windows client.

1. Are there any VPN clients that will work with the Linksys WRV54G? I've upgraded the firmware to version 2.25.2 and tried SSH Sentinel and TheGreenBow without success.
2. If anyone has got this to work, a step by step router and client configuration would be appreciated. The router VPN and network settings are at the factor defaults.

Thanks

Thanks Jim, I was able to create a SSH Sentinel > WRV54G connection. Router: Local Secure Group 192.168.1.0/24, Remote Secure Group 216.78.96.137 (dynamic WAN IP from ISP), Remote Secure Gateway 216.78.96.137. I could ping all LAN resources.

Problem: Changed Remote Secure Group and Remote Secure Gateway both to Any (to account for dial up Dynamic WAN IP). The VPN is created, but I can't ping any resources. Not even the router IP which the tunnel shows I have a successful connection to.

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn't expect it to work with Remote (Any).

One possible workaround is to get a free DynDNS name for your home PC and use one of the free DynDNS notifiers (I use DynDNS-Updater from Nord Vision), which keep your DynDNS IP address updated.

Then, use your DynDNS name (say hlisd1.DynDNS.org) for the Sentinel remote addresses.

Sorry, I misread your post.

I thought you were using Any in Sentinel (which obviously won't work).

However, if the router will accept a DynDNS address, (mine does, but its not Linksys) this approach will still work, albeit in reverse.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried with a DDNS (TZO), called tech support a couple of times, and even tried another Linksys product (BEFSX41) still no go. The dynamic IP problem seems consistent across both Linksys products.

Well, if you are only doing router to router this may still be a decent product, but not for traveling users VPN. Maybe, the next firmware upgrade will fix this stuff. Damn, I did't want to return to WRV54G, but I did.

I purchased the Netgear FVS318 and it worked fine out of the box with the free SSH Sentinel VPN client. Hell, after I upgraded the firmware there was a wizard to configure VPNs.
