Hi Guys,

I recently upgraded a pc using Win98 to a cable modem. However, I can't set a VPN connection. It still tries to look for a modem on the old VPN setting even though MicroSoft VPN adapter is selected as the device.

When I try to make a new connection for VPN, all that shows up under devices is the dialup modem and not the VPN. This has me in a bit of a jam. Can anyone help? PLEASE!

From what you have posted... Looks like you don't have the VPN client installed.

NOTE: You may need the Windows 98 Installation CD in order to complete these instructions.

Double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Double click on the Control Panel icon
Double click on the Add/Remove Programs icon
Select communications and then click on details
From the Communications window check the Virtual Private Networking box and then click the OK button.

This should take you back to the Add/Remove Programs window and you should click ok. Reboot if necessary
Double click on the My Computer icon on the desktop.
From the My Computer window double click on the Dial-up Networking icon.
In the Dial-up Networking window double click on the Make New Connection.

This should bring up a window with 2 input fields.
Type the a name into the `Type a name for the computer you are dialing` box.
Select Microsoft VPN Adapter as the device from the drop down list and click Next.

In the next window type the IP address of the Server you are connecting to and click Next.

Click the Finish button.

The above and similar information can be easily found by doing a search using Google or Ask.

Hope this helps!
