Hi everybody,

We have our exchange server access to all remote users by OWA and https allowed through firewall. We are looking for faster access to the mail server from outside.

1]Can anybody suggest me how to make Exchange 2000 server HTTP accessible so that we can use the HTTP connection option in Outlook 2000 /2002 to connect to the mail exactly like we can do woth Hotmail account. Do I need to create a new Virtual server for that? If yes, please explain me other configurations.

2]We have established VPN access from internet to our internal network. When I tried to connect to exchange server exactly like how we do on a LAN, it asked my logon information and did a proper name check. It resolved the name of the exchange server form IP. After that I got a message that Exchange server not available and retry. Is there anything missing here or any fix? Do I need to amke any changes on Domain controllers for achieveing a proper access?

Thanks a lot...

1)Outlook & Outlook Express can support connecting to Exchange via HTTP check out Microsoft Article: Q229801
this should take care of it.

2)It should work, here we use a VPN and connect to Exchange remotely. You should check to ensure that DNS is working over the VPN and that your Internal IP for Exchange is being used and not an External IP. Secondly, ensure that Outlook Advanced settings Logon network security is set to none, so it prompts for the user authentication.

Let me know how it turns out.
Thank you,

1] It was very much helpfull. I have not completely tested it. But Q229801 says to give server URL as I think I missed the usermailboxname. I will let you know if it worked.

2]I am able to reach the server. When I do the logon on the setup process it resolves the name of the server. I think that makes me feel that DNS is working over VPN. If not, let me know how much more I should test.
I am getting into the internal IP,not external

I need to check what you said about security.

Thanks
