i have a volume with 5 shares. I would like to enable volume shadow copy on this volume but i only want it to shadow copy 2 of the shares, not all 5? Is this possible?

Say a share is of size 1gb. when the shadow copy is created is this also 1gb in size? with each schedule shadow copy, does it overwrite the previous or create a new one? would the new copy also be a 1gb in size. if it works this way the volume would grow very quickly?

thanks for your help in advance.

You can only shadow the whole volume i'm afraid. The copies are only changes made to files and are stored in the system volume information folder, they will use 10% of your disk space by default before beginning to overwrite older copies but you can alter this.

I run a shadow copy once a day first thing in the morning and each on is about 1gig, they overwrite after eight days.

is that 10% of the current volume size (disk space used) ?

reply for your 2nd post..

what is you total disk space used for your volume that is being shadow copied?

The VSS service allocates 10% of the total volume size for storing the snapshots in so on a 100Gig disk 10Gig would be set aside for VSS. The size of the snapshots depends entirly on what has changed that day, our file server contains about 50Gig of data and is very busy so our snapshots are quite big.
