I am currently using the G.711 Alaw codec fro the IP stations around the office. I would like to set up IP trunks using the MEDPRO (Prowler) the general setup is not a problem, but .....

How do you get the IP Trunks to use a different codec set than the IP stations as I would like the IP trunks to use the G.729 Codec.

Any bright ideas ?

If you're using a different Prowler for trunking you can assign it to a different Network Region. Each Network Region can be defined to use a different codec.

The commands are 'change ip-network-region' and 'change ip-codec-set'

We are using the same prowler card for both the IP Trunks and stations. (Avaya don't really recomend it)
I
know you set the network region on the card (change ip-interfaces), is there anyway to overide this for spefic applications ?

If you have only one Prowler board, try ch ip-codec-set 1(assuming you network region is using codec 1), and add G.729 as your second choice. If the far end is using G.729 the definity should match it.

Or if the far end is a Definity. Under ch signaling group, set the Far End Region to a number that far end Definity is using for G.729.

Actually, do this..

put your lower codec first, the Trunks will use that codec, and then put your higher codecs for the phones second..

For some reason, even though the G729 if first, the Phones will use the G711

This is the way it is on r9.5, and I'm assuming its that way with any newer release..

Really the best way to do it, is to get another CLAN board.. You can share the Medpro Between network regions..

This is what I have done using different bits of info and it seems to work using the correct codec.

Created a new network region (2) using Codec 2. Codec 2 has only the G.729 codec in the list. And network region 1 uses codec 1. Codec 1 has G.711 Alaw and MuLaw and G.729.

The sig groups at each end both have the far end network region set to 2.

We are running r11 if anybody needs to know.

Hope this makes some sense.
