Has anyone every made calls VoIP calls from their 81 out to the internet? We have some developers who want to try doing broadcast dailing by using our PBX to an internet phone carrier, is this possible?

two ways to do that, get tdm dial tone via an internet provider or install ip trunks in your switch,, tdm dial tone from an ip would not require as much additional equiptment, but voip trunks are way cheaper by the minute.. fixed rate for full usage..

Sorry to be so dense, but the only thing I know about IP trunks are the ones we have set as virtual trunks to our second facility over a PTP. Do you get IP trunks from a LEC just like you would a PRI?

Your provider must give you a h323 trunk instead of classical PRI trunk (T1, E1, ...) Then register that H323 trunk in your NRS and route calls to it.

If your wish is to route calls not to provider but to internet directly(??!!) you also have to register a SIP or H323 trunk from any source into your NRS.
If so, tell me what your developpers expect to do.

Thanks for the great info..our LEC doesnt think they can provide a SIP or H323 in our location(small town) so does that mean its not possible at all?

I don't know what LEC is.

As you write about developpers, do you have infos from them about what they expect to do?
How this phone carrier have a connection to your site?
Internet only? Something like Skype Out?
