Hello All -

I'm new to the Norstar phone system. I need to make changes to the voicemail of an extension via the admin menu (name in directory, etc.). I log in, make changes, then nothing saves once i exit. Is there a step I'm missing?

Another problem: I have a phone that will not go into the voicemail. It will keep ringing until it's picked up or the caller disconnects. How do I get the voicemail to answer.

Thanks for your time.

for voicemail changes you need to login through f983. What do you mean by not saving?

Also the phone that does not go to voicemail needs to be forwarded to the vmail dn. Under the set find fwd, and set that to the vmail dn after 4 rings.

I would recommend having a vendor come out and give you full admin training. Yes it may cost 2-3 hundred dollars for the training, but in the long run it will help you a ton. Plus i have seen one too many play around and end up causing problems that end up costing thousands to fix.

but let me know where the above gets you and we can try and help

In your first question, if making changes in a CCR tree you must disable the tree first, then enable after saving.

Thanks for the help. I'll look into the training. we're a small company and don't know if we can afford it. Let's see if I can be more specific on what I'm doing:

I login f983, make changes (i.e. name, etc.), then I exit and it's like nothing happens.

phoneguy610 - what do you mean 'under the set'?

So I found the norstar voicemail guide. It's in a 2" 3 ring binder. In there I found a different login for what I'm guessing is the configuration side of the phone system. the login was **266344. In there I found FOWARD NO ANS and set it to the vm ext. now my phone goes to vm. So I'm good, for the time being.

I found a date on one of the manuals. 1999.

Thanks for all info.

So you mean (to be SPECIFIC) you went to MBOX,CHG,XXX,Name: and changed the name?.

Did you press Ok before you exited programming?

What you did is what phoneguy mentioned....programming under sets on the phone system side.

One thing you could try is to go into the voicemail and go through the particular voicemail box and note the extension number and the service class and then delete it and add it back as a new box. They would need to initialize the mailbox with the defaulted password and go through the quick step to get it back, but sometimes that is the faster method.

to save the changes that you made in F983 in mailbox part, just change the name if u want and then press * or continu till the end and you will be prompt in the previous menu. If it dont work be sure that you are on the right extention, very often the client dont know her own extension, so maybe you modify the wrong mailbox. To verify the extension press F*0 then an intercom key. And if you working on the front desk extension, often and by deafault the 221, the mailbox number is probably 100 associate with the ext. 221 this is a special mailbox.

But Crowtalk is right, the best way to set a mailbox for a new user is to delete the old one and recreate it wipe out all the previous user setting and especially the talked name for the directory.
