Hello to anyone as this is my first post to this forum.

I have been involved latelly in LG-Nortel's ipLDK systems and I must admit the platform is excellent but I'm a little bit stuck with terminology and VOIB issues (I've read other posts and I have VOIP working) with a capacity and planning.

First can anyone please point a difference between VOIB and VOIBE? I fonly found that :

1. VoIB (8ch): separate board for either IP
trunk use or for IP line use.
2. VoIBE (24ch): no separate card is needed
for each function.
I have D300-VOIB12.STG cards for my ipLDK100/300 systems.

Also about system capacity and using of the VOIB cards. For example I have an ipLDK20 and its build up with maximum VOIP cards: 1.L20VOIM with 4 ports and L20VOIU with additional 4 ports. I'm planning to use hard IP phones and Phontage (I have licenses for phontage). From the configuration it's obviously that I have 8 ports available. Are those only "voice channels"? In the specification I've seen that ipLDK20 supports up to 28 IP extensions. Does it mean that with these VOIB cards I could register all 28 IP phones to the system but I will have only 8 voice channels available?

What about ipLDK100 and ipLDK300 systems. Does this count for them too? For ex. if I have 1 VOIB card with 12 channels can I register lets say 20 IP Phones to the system.

For now I have succesfully set up a connection to SIP provider without any problems for international calls and register an IP phones, I'm just confused about capacities and possibilites. Also I know about the license I need if I'm networking system together through IP or QSIG.

If anyone have experience on this please let me know.
I will also share my experiences throuought the forum.

Hi Shoner

I have here the requested info for ipLDK-100 and ipLDK-300.
For both these systems you can choose between VOIB and VOIBE.

1. VoIB (Max. 8ch): separate board for either IP
trunk use or for IP line use.
Answer:
Only H.323 trunk and IP phones.
The main board of VOIB have no IP channels. A maximum of 4 pcs. of VOIU can be installed on the VOIB main board.
So an IP trunk can have up to 8 channels, and if IP phones are installed, up to 64 can be installed with one VOIB board in connection with ipLDK-100.

2. VoIBE (24ch): no separate card is needed
for each function.
Answer:
I have D300-VOIB12.STG cards for my ipLDK100/300 systems.
Both SIP and H.323 trunk and IP phones.
The main board of VOIBE have 12 channels. A maximum of 1 pcs. of VOIUE can be installed on the VOIBE main board.
So an IP trunk can have up to 24 channels, and if IP phones are installed, up to 64 can be installed with one VOIBE board in connection with ipLDK-100.

Remember this important issue:
When use VMIB/VMIB2/VMIBE, VoIB, VOIBE and WTIB together, it does not allow to install more than 2 boards in the same KSU because of +5V power consumption.
(Ex: it is available in installing VMIB2 & WTIB, but VMIB2, VoIB, VOIBE and WTIB is not available.)

To your question:
Does it mean that with these VOIB cards I could register all 28 IP phones to the system but I will have only 8 voice channels available?
Answer:
Yes, this is possible, as the IP phones share the voice channels!
