According to the article, VMWare has not released a patch yet, and all file sharing between host and guest should be suspended, on ALL products.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone would find this security hole. I'm very glad I objected when my peers wanted to put a VM host in our DMZ.

Why would one run VMware on a windows host

(My) commonsense dictates the inverse. Better performance for the guests and less reboots for all.
