VMS - STDOUT & SYSTEM function

We currently have perl 5.6.1 installed on VMS and am having a KNOWN issue that I was wondering if anyone knew if it has been addressed in newer versions of perl.

I am basically redirecting STDOUT to NL: (null output), but the system function ignores this redirection.

As I've stated above, this is a known issue in our version of perl. Any idea on whether it's been resolved or not in newer versions of perl?
