VMS Hunt Delay not working 1

I don't understand why our phone system rings so many times.

I set up the automated attendant to pickup after 2 rings by setting VMS Hunt Delay #506 to Immediate.

Sometimes it picks up after 1 and half rings like it is supposed to. Other times it picks up after 4 or 5 rings.

Is there anything we can do to make it pick up when it is supposed to, or do just have to live with it this way?

Thanks,

Stephen

If sounds as if you have one additional extension programmed in hunt group 7. Say you have a 2 port Voice Mail, but you programmed three extensions as the voice mail ports (the two actual ones and another accidently). Calls are sent in a circular fashion to the VM ports, and if not answered in 4 rings, sent to the next port. The first two calls answer properly, the third call rings at that phantom extension 4 times, then moves on to the next real VM port and gets answered. Two calls later, the same thing happens.

Anyway, the way to find and fix this is to determine the correct extension numbers for your voice mail ports, then put on your programming overlay on Ext. 10 or 11, FEATURE 00, System Program, System Program, #505-7-10. Look at the 2nd line in the dislay. If it says 2-Not Assigned, that's good. Hit Next Item, it will advance to Ext. 11, check the 2nd line again, and proceed until it comes back to Ext. 10.

Any extension EXCEPT the actual Voice Mail ports that you find have 1-Assigned, press 2 to change to 2-Not Assigned.

Thanks, that worked great! You were exactly right. We did have two ports that were assigned to the voice mail, and three were assigned to the hunt group 7.
