we have an Avaya IP OFFICE 406 VMPRO and it randomly stops working.

What actually happens is this:
A user tries to get email via the short code or hiting "messages" on the 5410 phones, and nothing happens.

I restart the vmpro server and it works for a bit, then it stops. It also works for a bit when I take the wan ethernet out and put it back in.

Any suggestions are welcome!

What version of VM pro are you running and what software level is the control unit?

Also are there any firewalls involved? Have you run the Avaya firewall.bat?

I had a similar issue a couple of month’s back, it turned out there was an issue with the windows 2000 server and the services randomly stopping.

Are you able to run it an a separate server to prove to machine?

Is this new install or did this just start happening?
1st question.. What version of VM Pro?
2nd question.. Does the PC see the Feature Key? Is it USB or Serial
3. Are the licenses Valid..

there was an issue with the time on the server, if it is not part of a domain then disable the automatic update through the internet, it helped for me on 2 occasions but some other guys had not such luck. Your release is very important, if you are an older release the I would suggest upgrading to a more recent release.

This problem started happening after a move. We bought a new rack and put it on a shelf in the rack. We had to power down everything and bring back up.

It is similar to a license key issue but its not, more random.

Last time I rebooted, the vmpro kept saying "You have no new messages" from any 5410 phone. Then it went dead.

Usually says "Welcome to IP Office..blah blah".

Strange though, I am having trouble logging into the manager as well. It sometimes logs in and then says "communications error", I also get "authentication failed", but random.

Think the whole phone system could be getting interferance ?

Tomorrow...I mean monday, Im going to buy all new 1 meter shield cables. See if any difference.

Thank you for all your help, hope fully will have better luck after weekend.

Did you change the network radical ?
Then i mean firewall etc etc etc ?
It looks like it can not communicate with the ipo and you also cannot communicate with it once in a while

is window update enabled or has the system been updated, if so roll back the last updates since the move to test if they did something to the server.

I think it sounds like there's an IP conflict on the network. That usually behaves the way you descibe.

Unplugg the VM Pro machine and PBX from the network and try to ping their ip adresses and see if something answers =)

So there was an IP conflict.
A parallel to ethernet netgear mini server was installed on a printer downstairs, didnt know about it until an hour ago. I found out by trying to telnet into ip of server and it came up with "PS Server", I said WTH ?. Any ways I changed the ip on that and voicemail has now been working for.... 1:03:45

Have also notified person to let me know when they install ANY network hardware. (Got the whole.."how could that make a difference?" and "Are you serious" reactions)

Thanks EVERYONE !!!

Hope this was the problem.
