Hi,

This is my first time setting up VLans, I currently have 2 Catalyst C2950G-24 Enhanced Image IOS 12.1 (11) and two Catalyst C2950-12 Standard Image IOS 12.1 (11).

After much trying and reading all I could on the net I have come to a complete stop.

This is what I need to do:

On the 1st Catalyst 24 port:
Fa0/1 connected to the Firewall
Fa0/2 connected to the 1st Catalyst 12 port, which connects to the 2nd Catalyst 12 port
Fa0/3-5 connects to servers
Fa0/6-12 connects to guest machines
Fa0/13-24 connects to user machines
Giga0/1 connects to 2nd Catalyst 24 port (via Fiber)

All the ports on the two 12 port switches are user machines.

On the 2nd 24 port switch, Fa0/1-12 are guest and Fa0/13-24 are user machines.

Guest Machines should not see the user machines, but all machines must be able to see the servers.

I initally tried putting all the servers on Vlan1, Guest machines on Vlan2 and User machines on Vlan3.

When I did this, none of the Vlans could talk to each other (as expected) however, I thought that all vlans could access vlan1?

All help greatly apreciated.

put all the user machines on vlan1, put all the guest machines on vlan 2, and put the servers on vlan 1 and 2.

vlans will never be able to talk to each other. so you must make the server ports members of both vlans.
