Sorry to be vague at this point.

I have created VLANs across Cisco Cat and Dell switches at our head office. A cisco core site router links cross these VLans. Is it possible to extend the VLans to a remote site creating dedicated isolated data channels. Our core routers link using ATM and Fast Ethernet.

I'm still not clear at this stage if I'm thinking crap and should attack this some other way. Help appreciated.

Thanks
Si

Hi,

You should be able to extend vlans anywhere you want as long as the technology is the same... I.E Ethernet and you stick to the Technologies rules, such as distance between devices etc.

You can extend the layer 2 Networks ( vlans ) either by trunking multiple vlans using protocols such as .1q and Ciscos ISL or by single cables running a single layer 2 network. Im not sure if I understood your question fully but hope this helps.

If you can clarify exactly how far away your remote site is and what technology you have between sites, this may help.
