How to know whether a record is updated sucessfully of not after rs.update() call
will it return something

Clear all of the text boxes, and them immediately edit the record you just inserted. This would be very annoying to the user, but during the design phase you could implment this for consistent update verification, and then remove it when you roll out your code.

Dont really know from practal experience, but I think that typical errors and conflicts are detected and errrors are reported.

That is the point of commit/rollback when you have to do UpdateBatch.

I usually check the "RowsAffected" property of the recordset object.
