When I run a slide show in Vista I find its pretty jerky, is anyone else getting this issue?

I'm using a Dell XPS M1730 with 2GB Ram & T7700 2.4GHz dual core cpu. My old desktop which ran XP had no issues, so I'm assuming this is a Vista quirk?

What Video Card are you using, but more important have you checked that it (Video) is using the latest available drivers from the manufacturer?

See if your card allows you to change the graphics hardware acceleration setting in Windows? Try experimenting with different settings.

On a computer that is running Windows Vista
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Personalization, click Personalization, click Display Settings, and then click Advanced Settings.
2. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change Settings.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.
3. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider until it is one notch to the right of None. This is the basic acceleration setting.
4. Click OK two times, and then close the window.
If the issue is resolved when you set the Graphics Hardware Acceleration slider to None or to Basic, contact your hardware manufacturer to find out how to obtain and install the latest video driver for your video card.

If you already installed the latest video driver for your video card, and you continue to experience graphics issues with the Graphics Hardware Acceleration slider set to Full, repeat the steps in this article. However, move the Graphics Hardware Acceleration slider one notch to the left until the issue no longer occurs.

I have tried to change the hardware acceleration but when I go to do so the Change settings is grayed out. The message it gives says that my current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings. I have just been on the NVIDIA website and my drivers are the current ones available.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT dual 256MB SLI

Games work fine, all other things in Vista are fine its just the windows slideshow. I have tried this on another Dell laptop and its the same.

This might be a Vista bug and not much you can do about it, see if any of these give you a few clues?

You may experience poor playback quality when you view a slide show in Windows Photo Gallery by using the Pan and Zoom theme

I have changed the settings from fade to classic and it now works fine. My old pc that ran xp did the job really well and the power of it was not a fraction of this XPS monster and that is what is annoying me. Thanks for the excellent responses and if I ever get it working ok with fade I will let you know:)

Did you update the Vista Photo Gallery software? I didn't notice much difference, but it is reportedly "better.

Well I have got Vista SP1, is that what you mean?

I'm probably gonna stick another 2GB of ram into it soon, that might fix the issue:)

On my laptop I have a realtime performance monitor and when running a slide show the memory and cpu usage is pretty low

No, I meant Windows Live Photo Gallery. It's a separate download.
