Here is a good one for you guys.

I had three visio 2000 files open on my machine. I left for the day and my PC was mysteriously powered off. When I tried to open the files I got teh error mess:

Visio Internal Error #3400
Action 1283:Open FIle
First try closing and reopening the file. Next try restarting Visio.

I moved two of the files to another PC and renamed them and they worked fine. One file I cannot open. Had several different PCs try and open it and they get the same error.

Any Ideas???

Not sure what the problem is (one of those 'mysterious' errors but if you are desparate here are a couple of things to try:

1.rename the file but change the file extention to .vst
2.open word and try insert the file (through the Visio import option) into there and see if you can see anything in Word - it may be that you cannot open the file but all the stuff may still be in there.
3.I assume you've tried all yout temp files...

Not sure what else to try...

Thanks for the info. I got Microsoft on the horn and asked then what was the problem. Apparently it is a known bug in visio that if it crashes or if the machine is turned off with files open that there is a 98% chance of Visio eating some if not all of your data. I sent them my file and they said that it was missing about 30% of the data. They tried to repair it using various tools but they were not sucessful. They had a hotfix that would fix the problem from happenign again.

So needless to say, I had to recreate about two weeks worth of work. But I at least got the hotfix and passed it along to our workstation guys so this would not happen to anyone else.

Nothing worse than repeating your own work but it does happen. Hopefully it will not happen again.
Cheers
