Visio closes after opening a drawing

Visio 2000 Enterprise running on XP Pro. New install. Everytime I open a new drawing or open an existing document, the Microsft error reporting window pops up and the program closes. Any ides why this is occurring? I have uninstalled an re-installed several times.
