What are the risks involved with creating a VPN tunnel with a remote user who may be infected with a virus or worm?

With all the microsoft problems going on right now, we are wondering how secure we are by allowing VPN tunnels in from pc's which we do not have complete control over.

We are using a Nortel Contivity 1600 and 4.65 client software.

Thanks

Maybe this is off-topic, assuming the wrong thing, or other...but...

Isn't it implied/obvious that PC's connected to your VPN--let's say a user working from home--that you don't have control over that PC?

There's just some things you can't do anything about...other than installing Anti-Virus and ensuring secure connections to the mission-critical environment.

Site-to-site VPN's would fall under the same pretense if the remote site does not belong to your company.

That's just something you as a network/system admin have to deal with. Either let the user connect and trust them to take the necessary security precautions...or don't let them connect. Those are your options.
