Hi,
I recently unzipped some mp3s on my laptop (running windows 2000)
when I shutdown and then rebooted, the initial screen came up showing (HP Invent, press F2 to enter startup etc) it then just went blank. nothing came up but the machine remained on, and the hardrive had a bit more activity.

I dont know how to get it back, so I am thinking about using the product recovery CD-ROM that came with the laptop - the only downside is, that I will loose all of my music and data.
any ideas what could have happened?

I used a boot disc, but when I finally got my C:\WINNT prompt, I changed to A:\ to run an antivirus software but i could not run anything.

help me!

I don't think it was a virus. More likely you have a problem with your boot files. (Possibly a hard drive problem?) Check HP's web site to see if they have had any other problems with those particular laptops.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I don't know if this is a personal laptop or a company machine, but my tech support here at work has recovered data for us before. They would take the HD out, and try to connect it to another machine as a slave, and then try to get your files off.

Don't know if this is an option or not, but thought it might be worth a shot. Terry M. Hoey
