I am running Vista on a HP Laptop and installed Virtual PC from Microsoft. I installed Server 2003 and Windows XP both as virtual installs. When I am interacting with the virtual install, ie; clicking on desktop icons, etc. I get this lag. The cursor will not move around the screen smoothly, it jumps. The laptop should be plenty fast. It has dual core 2.5s, 4 GIG of ram. I allocated 512 for each installation. Anyone run into this? Is there something that I can do to fix it? As it is, it is quite hard to use because you are always ahead of the cursor.

Thanks, - Shannan

in vpc's settings check if "Hardware Assisted Virtualization" is enabled if it is try disabling if isnt then enable it i've had either scenario be the cause of that running 03 server and xp

It says that it is not available on this computer and it is grayed out.

ok where are you running the virtural harddisks from are they on the harddrive in the computer or are they on a network or external drive ?

I am running them on the local hard drive on my laptop.

Have you installed the Virtual Machine Additions on these VMs? It removes the need to have hardware-assisted virtualisation and should speed up the mouse.

If I did I was not aware of it. I will check on this.

Thanks,

It's always good to install VM Additions because, amongst other things, it patches parts of the VM's system so that they run better in 'real' mode. This article explains what that means.

It's also handy because you can run the VM in a window and interact with it pretty much like a normal window (i.e. it won't grab your mouse when you click in it).
