Virtual OS

I would like to run Linux together with my win xp - on the same machine.

A friend said I can use a virtual OS. I was wondering which will be the best Virtual OS for WinXP.

And if I run Linux as a guest on the virtual machine, can I download software, like MySQL for Linux on the guest OS?

Would suggest investigating VMWare to see if it supports the version(s) of Linux that you want to run. Website is
