Hi all,
I seem to be having some problems with my computer. It has really slowed down, and I always get a message that virtual memory is full and will need to write to the hard drive, or something similar to that.

Why is my virtual memeory low? I just put in a new stick of memory, and now have 256Meg's of memory.
What would be the cause of this?

Thanks,

Jedi Warrior

Virtual memory is what is used when you run out of room in your installed memory. When the programs need more memory, it is transferred to the "virtual memory" which is created on your hard drive. If your hard drive is full, there is no more room to create the virtual memory. So much for explaination: now on to your problem. What OS are you using? The "cure" is addressed differently on different OS's. Either way, you need to know how much room you have left on the hard drive.

Also, shut down all unnecessary programs, incl. those running in the background.

And if you're using Windows XP, then it's recommended to install at least 512 MB of RAM, as XP is a memory hog.
