Hi all.
I have install WIN XP on a computer and it all OK, but when I try to see some webpage or chat, the explorer send a message "DOWNLOAD VIRTUAL MACHINE" or something like that, but when I try to download the VIRTUAL MACHINE, I got the error "MICROSOFT VIRTUAL MACHINE" not longer exist.

I have been trying to download all update for java, but none work and I keep recibing the same error.

What can I do to fix my problem??

thanks in advance!!!

The file you need for XP is MSJAVx86.exe version 3805 you should be able to get it via the Microsoft Update site.

The one you want is...........

Security Update, March 4, 2002

This update resolves the "Java Applet Can Redirect Browser Traffic" security vulnerability in the Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM) on Windows XP and Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), and is discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-013. Download now to prevent a maliciously crafted Java program ("applet") from silently re-routing all browser traffic to the applet’s host without the user’s knowledge.

This update upgrades your version of the Microsoft VM to 3805. (Or installs it).

For more information about this vulnerability, read Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-013. (This site is in English.)

System Requirements

This update applies to:

Windows XP
Windows Me

How to use

Restart your computer to complete the installation.

How to uninstall
Uninstall is not available.

Thanks, But I can't find nothing there, and I have download all update, and nothing happend.

Do you have other address about VIRTUAL MACHI??

That link checked out OK before I posted but now the site is not working properly. In due course they will fix it. You can try the normal Windows Update site by clicking on the Windows Update via the Start Button.

Another solution is to find a fellow XP user who has a copy of the "install package" and copy that and install from there. It is a 5.2mb file and the file version is 5.00.3805.

I gave up trying to get the file from Microsoft and just downloaded it from the Sun Microsystems website

pealer,
Be careful, I believe there are 2 versions out there - one by SUN and the other by Microsoft. GERT needs the Microsoft version.

GERT, links from Microsoft seem to have been taken down purposely. They're trying to enforce "Windows Update" to ensure that you have a legit copy of Windows (at least that's my opinion). If you already ran Windows Update, check to see if 3805 is installed:

1) Go to Start->Run, type command, and hit enter
2) Type jview and hit enter
3) On the first line, it will tell you Java version (should be 5.00.3805)

If you don't have it installed yet, go here to get it:

SCRATCH THAT LAST LINK

It is only for Win95,98,ME, and NT 4. For Win2000 and XP, it can only be updated via a service pack or Windows Update as far as I know...

The link I provided a couple days ago is dead but XP and W2k users can follow these instructions to retrieve VM 3805:

Follow these instructions for downloading the latest VM from Windows Update:[ul][li]Go to the Windows update site
[li]Click on the link for Windows Update Catalog
[li]Choose "Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems"
[li]Pick your OS from the list then choose Advanced Search Options.
[li]In the Search, type VM and press the SEARCH button
[li]You should get a link in Critical Updates and Service Packs, click it.
[li]Download the Security Update March 4, 2002. Note - you will have to pick a download location.
[li]After download, drill down into the folder structure until you find the file MSJavx86.exe, double click to install.[/ul]

Java is being withdrawn from Microsoft sites. See the following from CNET Security web site.

Microsoft pulls Java from download page

Weeks before Microsoft plans to reinstate Java in Windows XP, it has shut down a site that would automatically send its Java software to Windows XP users.
The company closed the install-on-demand feature Wednesday, 30 days after it told Java inventor Sun Microsystems it would reinstate Java in Windows XP through the forthcoming Service Pack 1 but remove it altogether in 2004.

Microsoft said the option was removed to take an issue off the table in legal actions with Sun.

Yup! MS pull-it-out from their download page but there's a lot of site that still provide it.. not sure how long it will be available from them too...

To anyone who want to get the MS JVM version 3805, you can go to below sites. (Note: Not sure how long they will provide it.. I suggest that users who like MS JVM 3805 to save it.. in case, users need to re-install their OS)

For Win2k use this "hotfix":

or

For 9x, ME, NT, XP msjavx86.exe is also available currently through a number of ftp sites such

as:

ftp://ftp.redcom.ru/pub/support/windows/corporate/8.04/winxp/en/com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x/x86WinXP/com_microsoft.javavm_3319_MIL_4275/MSJavx86.exe

ftp://ftp.intergraph.com/ingr/pub/old/pub/federal/msjavx86.exe
(probable, but not positive that this is 3805)
