Whats better. controlling your data on a form with a view or table?

Hi Tom,

Views allow access to multiple tables. That being said, they also require a database container to exist and primary key to be updatable.

Your tables can all be free tables. You can have a DBC that only contains views.

So the answer, personal preference.

That's a very open-ended question. It's almost imposssible to give general advice without knowing a lot more about your application and environment -- not to mention the type of data you are using.

Assuming you are working with native VFP tables, my personal preference is to not to use views. For me, it is an unnecessary extra layer of complexity. However, there are always circumstances where views would be appropriate. Some folk prefer always to use views. As I said, it all depends ...
