I have created a 4 page document in Word XP, I am on a network with other XP machines, and 98 machines, the XP machines can see my document fine, but the 98 machines running Office 97 don't see it correctly. the trouble is with tables....
has anyone ever heard of this?

Sure.

Word 2000 and XP are both capable of having tables inside tables. 97 is not.

You may want to go to the Tools-Options, Save tab, and use the disable features feature...

Sometimes it helps to have Office XP users save down the document. Do a "save as" and choose word6.0/95 in the save as type field.
