Hi,
I was wandering if there was a such thing as a Access viewer that would let a user print an access report without having access installed.
I want something like that because users just fool around with the pc and I'm tired of reinitialising the pc each week or two...

any ideas?

thanks

If you have the developer's version of Access, you can freely distribute a runtime version of Access which will allow users to run the database, but not modify it. Mike Rohde

Thanks Mike...

but of I understand what you mean... you're speaking of .mde?

I was hopping of something that I could run without access 97 installed on the machine...

Thanks

Rick,

The Microsoft Office Developer's addition includes an add in (depending whether you are using Access 97 or 98), which will allow you to basically wrap your .mdb file into an install package, which includes a runtime version of Access, free to distribute, with your application. You get options, such as Floppy, CD, or network distribution, making registry updates, etc. This is a little different than creating an .mde file, which still requires Access full version access.'

Hope that helps.

Actually, Access runtime will run .mdb or .mde files. It doesn't take up nearly as much space as a full Access install, and when you run it, there aren't a lot of toolbars, etc. All the user can do is whatever you allow through forms, buttons, etc. in your database. Mike Rohde

Thanks guys,

Do you have an idea where I can find this "Run time" access?

thanks

You have to buy the Microsoft Office Developer's edition. Mike Rohde
