Hello,

I just downloaded a game demo (from a reputable site), ran the exe which opened a DOS screen for a split second and then closed (and then nothing...). Now I'm paranoid that it was something bad - is there any kind of history logged anywhere where I could check the last few actions of my PC? I think it was too fast to have installed a program, but it doesn't hurt to investigate a little!

Thanks,
-Sean

Assuming its Win XP, run CMD from the Start->Run menu. Run your exe from there and you should see what, if any, messages are produced. I have seen this several times when an older program can't run in XP. Win 98 has a MS-DOS option that allows you to do the same thing.

Wow - that was fast! Thanks kiddpete!

I changed the extension (of a copy) of the file to txt and saw text and html tags - so I guess it just saved an html page as an exe (so it didn't do anything). Your suggestion produces the same result (I think because it isn't doing a thing).

Thanks again!

-Sean
