printer. voltmeter. logic probe. parallel to serial converter and hyperterminal.
Personal choice is the parallel to serial converter into a laptop using DOS terminal emulation software.

thanks

but i hav a barcode scanner that has a serial port connection, and it works fine

however we use dumb terminals with no serial port only parallel

so i want to put a serial >> parallel connector and test it on a windows machine to see if it works

I'm not sure what you are saying. It sounds like you want to test the dumb terminal as that is the only parallel port you mention. That will be an output only port and I use a parallel to serial to dump to the screen of my laptop. I have also used the same converter to a second terminal.

Most device drivers for printers on a parallel port can test for 2-way communication.
