Video Disolve Transition doesn't work

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem if the video disolve transition doesn't work? I drag and dropped the video disolve transition where the two clips come together and the disolve transition automatically the alignment is center and that is what I want, the problem is, the effect doesn't work. Both of these clips are on track video 1. Could this has anything to do with it in Premiere Pro?

Double click the transition on the timeline and check in the effects window that the two clips overlap during the transition. Adjust as necessary to provide frames on which the transition can operate.

Thanks for the response. You are saying that in the effect control window, one clip has to literaly overlap the other for the effect to work?

You understand me correctly.

Video clips can only be extended as far as there is material in the clip.

For example, if you put a transition at the very start of a clip, there is no extra to be used during the entry phase to give a smooth change from the previous clip.

If there is material available, Premiere Pro will extend the clip automatically (I think).

Another approach for use in PPro only, which may be easier to use with crossfades if you are from an A/B editing background, is to put the incoming clip on the next track up with a suitable overlap and apply the transition just to the incoming clip to cover the overlap.

It works; however, I still have one more question. Why do I have to literally drag one clip over the other to create the disolve? Many of the disolve I have done, I don't have to drag one clip over the other. When I drag the disolve effect over where two clips meet, it automatically create the disolve transition. But somehow on this two particular clips, I have to literaly drag one clip over the other to create the transition.

The automatic clip extension will only happen when there are spare frames with which to fill the extra space. As I have already explained, if the transition is too near the ends of the clip, there isn't enough spare material to cover the length of the overlap, which can cause the visual anomalies as you have already discovered.

I got your point now. I think I just experienced the clip extension a couple of times but wasn't sure what it was. Well, I got it now. Thank you very much for your patience with me and your help.
