Is there much difference between a PCI graphics accelerator card versus an AGP card (ie -- Voodoo 3 3000?)

Today - no not really. There aren't any programs or games that take advantage of AGP's enhancements. When this will change - who knows... When I got my latest video card I went with the AGP version (since they were the exact same price) just in case something comes along to take advantage of the AGP.

So, no there really isn't any difference right now in terms of software that is out there... Another reason you might think of AGP is to keep that PCI slot free or something else (NIC, soundcard, etc, etc, etc) since AGP is only for video (at least as far as I know...)

Hope this helps,
Paul

Um basically, AGP is more beneficial for Game estusiast, and overclockers, as most of the high end video cards now only run on AGP ports, so you would get much better performance game and graphic wise(possibly multimedia) with an AGP Video card. if there were a PCI versoin of the highend chips, I'm sure they would follow close behind, but most companies has made it clear that the cost is too high for the type ofperformance hit you get on the PCI bus (and you cant overclock a single PCI slot without affecting the rest of your PCI Cards)

Whilst there are no games that fully take advantage of the AGP card, you will defenitely notice a speed increase in current games and when games are developed to take advantage of AGP (2x or 4x), you won't be left thinking "Why didn't I buy the AGP card" :)
