Hello,

I wonder whether you can help me. I have a DEll Dimension 2350 desktop and have purchased one game called "Call of Duty 2"

After installing I tried to run the game and got the following error :-

Getting Direct3D 9 interface...

Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.
Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support dynamic textures.

I have no idea what this means but suspect I have to have a modern graphics card.

Can anybody advise ?

Thanks for your assistance

You are right. Check to see if Dell has better drivers.

The answer is "42"

Drivers probably won't solve a thing. If the card isn't capable of supportig dynamic textures drivers won't help it support them.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

What it means is that you have low end Intel integrated graphics chipset.
Fine for your basic desktop applications but completely useless for gaming.

Your next step should be to determine wether or not you have a dedicated AGP slot, that will require a visual inspection.

Fingers crossed but hopefully you will find that your motherboard has this slot which will give you good choice of AGP gaming cards.

Find out about the AGP slot and let us know how much you can spend, we will advise.

Thanks Chaps,

I do only use the PC for internet and Micorsoft Office.
See if I can return the game and get a refund.

Cheers

Hello again,

I have been doing a bit more reading and would appreciate some advice. I have found a note on the PC world web site:-

and it states

"Also, the system has integrated graphics and no AGP slot, so you'll have to use a PCI graphics card should you want to upgrade later on."

What does this mean ? Can i buy a good PCI card or should I just give up on the idea ?

Cheers

What this means is you can buy a PCI graphics card as an upgrade to your onboard graphics.
Trouble is PCI is a slow interface, PCI cards are relatively expensive when compared to the same card made in AGP or PCIe interface AND your choice will be limited to fairly entry level offerings.
I think there are several manufacturers producing a PCI card based on Nvidia's 6200 GPU, I've also seen the FX5500 in this interface, both considerably faster than your onboard but still only entry level.
Even with one of these cards (around $100 for the 6200) you will have use the cards lower settings for smooth game play.

Hello Chaps,

Thanks for your help, I am a lot clearer now and will take the game back to the shop.

Thanks again
