Does anyone have any recommendations for a motherboard based on the above?
It needs to have integrated 4X AGP and USB 2.0 - and it needs to be REALLY cheap!!!! I have done a few searches - but I'm hoping someone already knows the answer!!

Asrock K7VM2 *V3.0* KT266 266fsb DDR Prosavage VGA 32Mb+ATA133+USB2+Audio+Lan (MicroATX) £32.61 (inc. VAT)

Quick question - why does it have to be KT266? Athlon XPs will work in a KT333 or higher - the FSB will auto-negotiate the speed.

Alternative:

Asrock K7S8X V3 SiS746Fx 333fsb DDR ATA133+USB2+5.1 Audio+Lan+8x AGP £26.73 (inc.VAT)

Both boards from - I think carriage is £7 next day on these. You may get them cheaper through Dabs or Simply.

I'm matching the specs for a Japanese friend who needs a really cheap computer. He has seen a whole deal from a shop but I have told him that I can build him one for the same money - but with better components. The board that they use in their deal is the above spec - but they won't say which board it is (or they don't know!) First I am simply trying to demonstrate to him that shops are not always right. This is actually a very Japanese cultural thing! They are really gullible and generally buy name brand rather than the best deal - and consequently get ripped off a lot.
I don't know if Asrock is available as a brand in Japan - do you know who the manufacturer is?
As for the MSI - the closest I can find is the K7T Turbo2(MS-6330V.05) is that the one?

Thats the one. MSI rocks. I've had that same board. Make sure you get the one with DDR because there is a sdram version and you don't want that.

Cheers! I can get that here for 38 quid. That's cheap enough for Japan! However - like I said, once I can convince him that it can be done - we'll probably upgrade the spec just a little - at least to FSB333.

p.s. If you are interested to see Japanese availability and prices then use Babelfish as a translator and translate - it lists most of the cheapest deals in Japan.

Get atleast a kt333 board so he can run pc2700 memory
and a 333mhz processor.
I have used a msi KT3M and no probs with that.
Should not cost so much more than a kt266.
The MSI KT3 M supports 333mhz cpu-fsb .
Alot of other kt333 boards support cpu-fsb 266 only.

If you can find an Asus A7V266-E it was a pretty good board. You could just opt for a Asus A7N266-VM Which was the Nforce1 Motherboard. I like the Idea of the KT333 motherboard also. Being a later chipset, KT333 or the later KT400 would probablly have a more refined BIOS and support a wider range of Processors.

With an older motherboard look it up and make sure it is compatible with WinXP on the MS Hardware Compatibility List(HCL).

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

If ever I am in this situation, I try to better the specification but keep the price the same or under what the other supplier is offering.
Look at the Asrock K7VM4, the new version to the motherboard Citrixengineer recommended, based on the newer KM400 chipset, at just a few dollars more, around £45UK onboard graphics, sound, lan but has extra features such as 8xAGP slot and support for all 333fsb CPU's (XP2.8+)

Everyone thanks for your replies! I have got him into a higher spec machine after proving that it could be done. I'll let you know what we did later. Thanks again!
