I saw a couple articles lately that referred to a 2 Gig Processor that VIA is working on. Projections were for a processor release date in the first quarter of 2004, maybe January you may see some more competition. Intel had an agreement with these guys to make and share info on Inel P4 motherboards. I wonder if they stole some laid off Intel people or if Intel is somehow helping them. There is a saying, "The enemy of my enemy, is my friend!" If Via makes a good 2 Gig processor this will mean a 3-way competition, which could hurt AMD quite a bit in the low-end market.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

VIA has shown absolutely no interest so far in competing head on with intel or AMD in the performance sector. Their focus is on low power consumption. Their latest chip that's soon to be released is clocked at 1GHz and consumes a mere 7 watts of power, compared to the same speed Athlon at 60 or 70 watts. But that doesn't come without a performance hit, obviously.

Yeah, VIA can definetely make a dent if they get going on their marketting; businesses who run office applications & the internet certainly don't need loud, hot, power hungry machines.

Latest I've heard is a proposed 1.4GHz C3 with the Nehemiah core, but it's questionable if that'll ever be released. Regarless, there's just no way VIA will be close in a performance race, and they don't plan to be.
