I just formated and re-install Window 98 SE. After installing everything, everything works except the VGA. The resolution is 640 X 480 can't go futher while the color is 2 and 16. When I right click My Computer>System Properties>Device Manager>Computer>Display Adapter, I see Standard PCI Graphic Adapter (VGA)

So, it means that the VGA driver is installed? But, then why I can't change the monitor screen to 800 X 600 or higher?

Hello

Your Windows doesn't have the proper drivers for your graphics card installed. If you know what it is and install them, you should be able to up the screen resolution, refresh rate and colour depth.
The VGA driver only supports basic VGA features: 640 x 480 resolution, 16 colours at 60 Hz refresh rate which is why you can't adjust any of the settings.

If you don't know what the video card or chipset is, I would recommend running Belarc Advisor ( or Aida32 ( to try and identify it.

Thanks, jrbarnett. When I go to Belarc and download the program and run it, I saw under Display, it shows

Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)
[Display adapter]
Super VGA 1024x768 [Monitor]

So, what should I do now? Which is the driver.

What VC do you have? Do you have an "install" diskfor it? Use it if you do.

Hi there, if you haven't downloaded the tool AIDA yet then do it... it will tell you what type of GFX Card is installed because it bypasses the installed drivers... with the information then go to the GFX card manufacturers website and download the correct driver for the card, install the driver, install the correct chipset drivers (VIA, SiS, or INTEL) aswell, and a correct monitor driver... this should get you going...

Ben

PS - AIDA allows you to directly go to the Manufactures websites out of the program...

I downloaded aida program and from there got to know the driver and went to search for it, then update the driver in device manager and restart and change the display properties>setting and change the resolution and color bit. Done.

Hi there, glad to know that you got it running...

comeback and give jbarnett a star or me...
