Hi all-
Something really strange is happening that is keeping me from building an executable.
It will allow me to rebuild my project with no errors, but when try to build the application it is hanging on a report that I have used Ramani's SETFRX.prg against.
I can't figure this out because it was building fine yesterday.

Any Ideas of why the VFP 7 would Not respond while building an .exe?

Thanks
Angie

HI Angie,

It is likely that the project files are corrupt.
1. Do a packing of the project
2. Open the report in the rpeort writer and save it back. Make a mock moving of a box... to the left and then back to its position,.. so that the report it saved again by VFP. Then rerun the setFrx to strip the printer specific information, then rebuild executable.

Hope that solves your problem. :)

ahaws,

I believe that Ramani's advice is good for the problem you are experiencing...I have seen this thing before on my end and I use a technique very similar to what Ramani has advised you to do and it usually fixes the problem... sometimes though, the pjx is too badly damaged to recover this way and I have had to create a new pjx and add the files back in again to get it back up and compiling again.

Ramani,

What is the Setfrx.prg?

Hi Slighthaze

SetFrx.PRG is in ...
How to hack FRX file to strip printer driver information
faq184-581

Since Angie mentioned related to that, I also folowed that.

Hi Ramani-
I packed the project, then opened all reports and saved-
ran setfrx.prg and used one report and modified the papersize to be = 149 (special form size I created in Win2000)in the EXPR field. Then try to build the .exe again and I am still getting no reponse when trying to build a report.
Can build the project, but not the .exe.

I even created a new project like Slighthaze had suggested and am getting the same thing Not responding.

I even uninstalled VFP 7.0 and reinstalled.
This is not good - project due in 2 weeks. this is the first time since using VFP that this has happened and I dont know what else to do.

Any other suggestions?
Angie

Hi Anjie,

I am not sure of what is happening. But a quick suggestion. TRy this one.

In your command window, type
? SYS(2005)
You will get a FoxUser.DBF file name with all its path.
Note down the same and quit VFP.
Locate the same FOXUSER.* and delete that set of FoxUser.*
Restart and compile. Hope that solves the issue.

If you don't modify the reports after creating a new project does it then compile the exe correctly? I mean, have you ascertained for a certainty that it is the setfrx.prg that is causing the problem and that it is only with the modified reports?

Hi Slighthaze...
Not really sure what has caused this problem because there are many factors involved here.
1. Network was changed - where our work areas are on a different volumn. When I built my project last week when there was only one server/one volumn, there wasnt a problem. Now my proj asks where things are and I locate but that could be part of the problem.

2. The building of the .exe was hanging on the reports. That is why I thought hacking could have posed a problem, however, I was able to go to another machine and rebuild there. Same netware login though, go figure that one.

It was strange though, because when i created a new project and tried to build and it hung- when I tried to modify the new project - it gavethis error - "Not a Table".
That was as far as I could get into that project because it would not let me in it.

So - I guess that I will look into maybe reinstalling Win2000?! Dang.

Thanks to both of you for your help, and if I find out why this was so confusing and hanging up- I'll drop a note!
Thanks
Angie

Angie,

Glad you were able to rebuild it on another machine, at least you have a workaround for the time being. I wouldn't think that Win2k could be causing the problem, but who knows. You've already reinstalled VFP or I would suggest that. If I think of anything else I will be sure an post, sorry but for the time being I have run out of ideas. Thanks for the star.
