VFP 8.0 Search Path problem

I've just installed VFP 8.0, and I've gone to "options" on the tool menu, and put in the search path that I want VFP to use. I've selected "Set as Default", clicked on "OK".

I've checked, and VFP honors the path that I've selected. I've also checked the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\8.0\options\path" key. This key does contain the path that I have entered. The key is correct while I'm in VFP, after I exit VFP, and when I re-enter VFP.

VFP does not seem to be reading the registry upon restart, because it does not re-set the path when I re-enter VFP, even though it is in the registry. I am not using a config.fpw file, or any kind of "startup" program.

Can anyone suggest what might be happening?

Michael

Michael,

I'm not sure what's happening. Maybe it has something to do with OS.

Look here for the solution:

AirCon,

Thanks for the reply. I am running Windows 2000 SP3 on a stand alone system. I have tried (with success) using the config.fpw file, as indicated in the thread you supplied. But, I would much prefer using the tools>>options method, as in the past. I will try to get Microsoft's attention, to see if they know of a bug.

Thanks again.

Michael

I contacted Microsoft regarding this issue, and here is their response:

This is indeed a bug in VFP8, Michael. We will most likely be addressing it in VFP8 SP1 (if we make one), or in VFP9 at the latest. In the meantime, there is a workaround. Simply place a CONFIG.FPW in your VFP8 HOME() directory to make the PATH statement work. This CONFIG.FPW does not even need to contain anything - it just needs to be there. If you do not want to place this file in the VFP8 HOME() directory, you can place it anywhere else you choose, just specify where it is with the -c command line switch on your shortcut to VFP8. For instance:

"D:\Dev Products\VFP8\vfp8.exe" -c"D:\TEST\CONFIG8.FPW"

As this is a bug in our product Michael, there will of course be no decrement to your support incidents for this issue. Please try out this workaround and let me know if it resolves your problem.

I have tried the empty config.fpw file, and it works.
