I need to reset a 3640 router but all I'm getting is this error message:

Greenwich_3640#
00:03:10: %AAAA-3-INVSTATE: AUTHOR/CMD: Internal state is invalid: astruct 0x61
71FC48 ustruct 0x0
-Traceback= 601BE240 601BE120 601F1438 601F1EB8 601FCAAC 6023BF64 6023BF50

what does it mean and how to fix it?
many thanks,

This is the output for the Cisco "Error Message Decoder". I will came to this matter latter. Hope this help!

1. %AAAA-3-INVSTATE: [chars] AUTHOR/[chars]: Internal state is invalid: astruct [hex] ustruct [hex]
One of the two mentioned data structures is not set but is needed. An internal software error has occurred.

Recommended Action: Copy the error message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log, contact your Cisco technical support representative, and provide the representative with the gathered information.

Related documents: No specific documents apply to this error message.

Have you tried powering the router off and back on with a terminal connected to the console port to capture boot up info?

Yes routerman. I was able to confreg the 0x2142 register, reset the router, go into enable mode, run configure memory and that's it. No more commands all Iget after that is:

Greenwich_3640#
00:03:10: %AAAA-3-INVSTATE: AUTHOR/CMD: Internal state is invalid: astruct 0x61
71FC48 ustruct 0x0
-Traceback= 601BE240 601BE120 601F1438 601F1EB8 601FCAAC 6023BF64 6023BF50

thanks

Is this router configuration one that you need, or is it one that you could erase the start up config.

I suspect that the problem is due to a corrupt configuration in NVRAM,or a command that's not supported by the version of IOS.

If you issue conf t instead of conf mem can you enter configuration comands without problem? This would prove the router is basically ok.

If you need the stored config you may be able to boot the router, go into conf t, set some basic IP info and TFTP the config onto a PC, just dont wr mem!

Once its on the PC check it with notepad etc.

I tend to aggree with Routerman on this, it most likely is a corrupt startup-config, or an unsupported command from an uploaded config. Either way try copying the startup config, if possible. Editting it in notepad or using it as a template and just starting over. Delete the NVRAM and reload, and try re-confgiuring. If that doesn't cut it, go to TAC.
