My computer froze, so had to reboot. When I did, outlook's menu-bar's when opening an email are totally different. There are 4 blank menu bars, the standard toolbar is gone (send, receive, forward, etc.) and everytimg I go to tools to try and delte them, it does not allow me to. Plus, evertime I go in to try and customize the menu bars, it adds two new blank bars!!!
Does anyone know why or how this happened? any idea how to fix it?
reboot and repair already attempted.

Thanks.

HELP!!

Hi Anne.
Yes, I ran detect and repair.
It's work. Outlook 2000. In all my years of working with outlook, I've never seen a problem like this. It's the strangest (and most frusturating) thing!

Thanks

-Rob Rader

Another thing is the Actions menu in the general tool bar doesn't open. Not sure if could be related, but it's equally annoying.

Try This

Close Outlook.
Start-Run and type:

outlook.exe /cleanviews

This WILL wipe out any custom views as well.

Okay. Did you try resetting your menu bars? Tools-Customize, Toolbars tab. Choose one, hit Reset, choose the next, hit Reset.... If there's still weirdo ones, what happens if you yank them off (using the Alt key while dragging, if necessary)? Anne Troy

Thanks, but have been trying the normal stuff like that all afternoon. And frankly I have no hairs left to pull out.

Reseting does nothing. There's even a "reset my usage data" button in the general customize window that didn't work either. When dragging the weird ones off the email, they simply stay off the email when it's reopened. They don't "go away".

I honestly don't think I have any choice but to uinstall office and then resinstall. I'm not even sure that will work.

Outlook profile? in tools and options? Not sure of any other outlook profile.

Control panel-->Mail (or mail and fax).

You should see your profile in there. Make sure you get all the "info" from it, including your name (which is as the Exchange server sees it) and your exchange server name.

Then, you don't even have to delete your existing profile, just try to create a new one.

If it makes you nervous, do this instead:

Ask you IT dept to run unregserver and then regserver on Outlook (I don't know if you need the CDs, so I'm not suggesting you do it without knowing that first), and if that doesn't work, have the recreate your local profile and if that doesn't work, ask the exchange server admin to recreate your server profile.

And dern! Good luck! Anne Troy

Profile has nothing to do with it. It's this individual desktop having the problem.

Thanks for all your suggestions though.

No problem....

That unregserver/regserver may work.
The only thing is, when you run it, you may have to have the CDs....

Here's how:

Close Outlook.
Start-Run and type:

outlook.exe /unregserver

and then run (same way):

outlook.exe /regserver

Anne Troy

Anne,
Doesn't work.
gives me an error message
"The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using."

make sure there's a space between the exe part and the forward slash.

You may need to find the path to outlook.exe and include it, like this:

C:\program files\microsoft...blahblah...\outlook.exe unreg... Anne Troy
