i just got my new comp , whacked it all together and turned it on, then i find out the the mobo is running at about 55C-65C.i know the max of the mobo is around 60C. Is this reading correct? is this a faulty heat sensor? i only have 2 case fans and the room temp would be around 35-40C max(summer in australia =p). where is the temp for the mobo taken, northbridge? and would better case cooling be needed?

Specs
Asus A7V266-E
AMD Athlon XP 1600
300 Watt psu

any help would be appreciated

cheers

Hi;

If you mean that your CPU temperature is 55C-65C, I wouldn't worry too much. My AMD 1.2 runs around 51C.
Now if the system temperature is 55C-65C I would consider extra case fans (which really can't hurt in any case).
My system temp as I write this is 23C. I am using a Antec full tower with 4 case fans plus the fan in the Power supply.
Hope this helps.

Ed Please let me know if the sugestion(s) I provide are helpful to you.

it is the mobo temp at around 60C
my cpu temp is about 50C
i'm getting another 2 case fans in a couple of days, i'm just wondering how much of a difference that would make?
also would additional hsf to the northbridge be worth it?(small 40mm x 40mm hsf)

thanks for reply Eguy

Cheers

Go with the additional fans. Check that all cables are routed so they least restrict air flow through the case.

Also if you are using an AGP video card, these generate a lot of heat. If possible try to keep an adjoining PCI slot empty. It helps air flow around the AGP card.

R U sure about these temperatures? as it is imposible to have the CPU temp lower than the motherboard temp.
Without pelters and refrigeration you cannot physically get your CPU temperature cooler than the temperature of the air cooling it! This is why the motherboard temp/case temp is alway cooler than the CPU temp.
There has been an issue with this motherboard and reported CPU temps with certain heatsinks, sorry I carn't be more specific only to say that they are false readings and the CPU temps are actually lower than are being reported.
The other thing is this board is excellent for overclocking because of it's extreme voltage adjusting abillity, this means that potentially this board is capable of supplying high CPU voltages that will in turn produce lots of heat.
Lastly but not leastly, you are doing the correct thing by adding extra case fans, make sure wiring is neat to help air flow and you have a branded heatsink/cooler rated for your 1600+ or better! Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

thanks for the tips,
i'll post back when i get the new fans

cheers
