Version Question - Read SQL Server Tables?

Please help me with a version question. I am using CR9 Pro to design reports based on tables on a SQL server (ODBC connection).

RAS is great for distributing simple reports, but drill-down takes forever on my complex reports. So I'm looking to buy a couple of low cost CR licenses for some of my managers that need to read these reports and drill down quickly. These managers will be doing no design, can't see need to spring for more expensive license if Standard version will let them use the reports...

Q: Will CR 9 Standard or CR 10 Standard be able to make the ODBC connection and read the data from my SQL Server tables?

Q: Is there any reason a CR Standard user won't be able to read/drilldown/sort RPT files I created with Pro?

Q: Does this sound like the best/most economical way to speed drilldown?

Thanks for feedback,
ES

ES,

As far as I know, Standard doesn't support any ODBC connections, so I guess the answers to your first question is No.

However, there are several low-cost third-party viewers on the market which should meet your needs (that it, allow your users to view and drill down the reports but not alter their design).

One such product that I have used successfully is Ido Millet's Data Link Viewer. Ido is a member of the forum and can tell you more about it, or you can check it out at

Mike, That was excellent advice. I checked out Millet Software and ended up solving 2 of my problems! The DataLink Viewer application was exactly what we were looking for. My thanks to you and to IdoMillet!
